Scott T. Taylor - Lawyer and Legal Analyst
After graduations from the University of Toronto in 1976, and the Faculty of Law School at Queens University in Kingston, Ontario in 1979, completion of articles, and called to the Bar of the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1981, Scott commenced employment as a Senior Contract Specialist with Litton Industries Ltd., a division of Litton Industries Inc (USA), in Toronto, Ontario.
At this time, Litton was a major developer, manufacturer, marketer and vendor of advanced avionic and inertial guidance systems to both commercial and military customers throughout the world.
In this capacity Scott responsibilities included the review, negotiation and preparation of contracts and sub-contracts for the sale and licencing of Litton products to private and governmental end users throughout North America.
In 1984, Scott was recruited for the position of Manager of Contracts and Legal Affairs with Microtel Ltd., a subsidiary of the British Columbia Telephone Company, and relocated to British Columbia. In this capacity, Scott was tasked with effectively reviewing, interpreting, preparing and negotiating complex multi-million dollar national and international, commercial, technology contracts, subcontracts and agreements, including those relating to software licensing and development, technology transfers, non-disclosure, teaming and joint marketing, distribution, purchase, support and maintenance, and others. One notable achievement included the role of lead negotiator in the preparation, negotiation and award of the quarter billion dollar North Warning Modernization Project with the federal government.
In 1987, Scott commenced employment with Epic Data Inc., in Richmond, British Columbia as Vice President of Contracts and Proposals. Epic Data was involved in the development, manufacture and sale of data collection and security management products to both private and military customers throughout the world. Scott’s responsibilities continued to evolve and expand to include the management of the proposals function and providing practical, results oriented, advice and assistance to all levels of management addressing a wide variety of commercial and contract related issues.
In 1988, Scott was called to the Bar of British Columbia and has been in private practice since 1990 where he has continued to utilize his skills and expertise as a skilled communicator, team player and expert negotiator. To further enhance his law practice, and to emphases his firm belief in the benefits of mediation versus litigation, Scott has undertaken training to qualify as a Certified Mediator and Collaborative Divorce Lawyer.
PRESENT
Scott has maintained a general practice located in Langley since 1990 and continues to provide effective legal services to a growing client list. In support of his community, offer free legal advice to members of the seniors’ community at the Langley Seniors Resource Centre for over 10 years. He also provides pro bono legal services with the Western Canada Society to Access Justice to the disadvantaged.
Reflecting his beliefs and advocacy for positive change, Scott authors a popular weekly legal column entitled “Under Appeal” published in a variety of local papers in the Lower Mainland of B.C. Scott also contributes his views and opinion with the Vancouver Sun Newspaper and CKNW News Radio.
